Working with nonprofit boards is one of my personal passions. After 30 years of leadership roles with local and national nonprofits, I understand the complex challenges of running a nonprofit. 

​Many of us join boards because we have a heart for the mission. Yet as a board member, you carry important fiduciary responsibilities as well as oversight for the organization’s overall strategy and direction, and accountability for its performance. Meanwhile, we need to be careful to stay at a high level without getting too involved in day to day operations. Overstepping the boundaries between board and staff roles, or conversely, failing to understand or follow through on commitments, are some of the primary sources of friction between nonprofit boards and staff.

​I have deep experience working with, training and transforming nonprofit boards. I’ve helped boards navigate through tumultuous waters - including situations involving fraud, CEO terminations and unexpected vacancies, financial crisis, mergers & acquisitions, turnarounds, and public relations issues. Hopefully your organization won’t find itself in these situations, but if you do, know that I have the chops to support you through it.

My services include training and retreats focused on board roles and responsibilities, engagement, fundraising, strategic planning, and succession planning. I also offer board assessments, CEO leadership assessments, and customized consulting services.
